| Our
summer issue is inspired to a by a quote that is often
attributed to Horace Greeley of the New York Tribune,
when he wrote “go west, young man” in
an editorial column published on July 11, 1865. Interestingly
enough, when you research the concept of discovering
western destinations, you discover that the statement
had been penned fourteen years earlier by John Soule,
in a Terre Haute, Indiana newspaper, and the full
quote reads “go west, young man, and grow up
with the country”.
This month, we have decided to follow John Soule’s
suggestion, and at the height of the RV travel season
our attention has been drawn to a pair of western
destinations that are both magnificent to behold,
and ideal for RV touring. Art Dack, our Western Canada
Road Test specialist, reveals the splendor of the
East Kootenay region – the “land of a
thousand peaks”, where the majestic scenery
is matched only by the wonderful hospitality of beautiful
British Columbia.
We also follow the trail of Rhonda and Steve Ostertag,
as they describe the rugged vistas of the Oregon coast
- it’s a perfect destination to include on a
west coast RV itinerary, and one of the regions that
RV’ers often miss as they head south to the
more crowded RV attractions.
This issue focuses on many aspects of the RV lifestyle
that concern readers during the summer season, from
hitch adjustments and tow vehicle tuning to tips for
achieving the “perfect” steak dinner.
From cover to cover, I am sure that you will find
something to interest every member of the family,
as you explore the RV roads to adventure.
In the months to come, we will be expanding our online
presence with some very exciting new approaches to
our website, www.rvlifemag.com. We’ve RV’ed
right into 21st century technology, and the result
will be an interactive exploration of the very best
in RV oriented information and entertainment.
So sit back, relax, and enjoy our summer issue –
we’ll be back in your mailbox in a few weeks,
focusing on Eastern destinations and some of the very
latest developments in RV design and technology.
Drive safely, and don’t forget to take the scenic
routes – that’s where you’ll find
all of the really interesting RV destinations!
