INTERIOR
The two floor plans available depend on whether you desire
twin beds or an electric sofa bed that folds down. The twin
bed model, ‘TD’, offers a dining table that can
also become a queen-size bed. The ‘TS’ has an
electric sofa bed that’s very comfortable for watching
evening entertainment on the 17-inch flat-screen LCD TV with
DVD player. This model has two ottomans that allow you to
stretch out while relaxing and, at the touch of a button,
folds down into two single beds or one queen-size bed. This
sofa also has seat belts if you’re travelling with extra
passengers.
The
front layout of both models are similar, with a compact kitchen
equipped with two-burner gas stove top, Dometic microwave,
three-way Dometic three cubic-foot refrigerator, and a sink
for clean ups after dinner. A Shur-flo demand water system
supplies water for the kitchen and the well equipped bathroom;
so there’s no need to climb out of bed over top of each
other in the middle of the night to use the facilities or
to get a drink of water.
Hot water is always available from the auto
ignition six-gallon water heater that operates on propane
fuel. If you’re driving in the winter months on the
way to sunnier climates, the by-pass on the hot water heater
will protect it from freezing as you navigate the expressways
to warmer temperatures.
The bathroom was equipped with a Thetford
flush toilet, a second sink for washing up, and a three-compartment
storage area. A hand-type shower head with shut-off control
allows you to regulate the water temperature, soap up, and
then rinse off without wasting hot water. The medicine cabinet
was a good size for two people, and excess moisture and steam
could escape through the rooftop vent. Keeping the toilet
paper roll inside one of the compartments will keep it within
reach and dry during a shower.
MULTI-SEASONAL
This is a vehicle that’ll keep you warm and toasty in
the cool spring and fall weather as you extend your camping
season with the 16,000 BTU, auto-ignition furnace. There’s
no need to get down on your knees to light a pilot flame to
warm up, as you simply move the thermostat to the temperature
range where you’re comfortable. For warmer days, our
test unit was equipped with an optional rooftop Dometic 11,000
BTU Penguin air conditioner, which could be operated from
110-volt power in the campground or, when you’re in
the ‘boonies’, with the optional Onan generator.
We often use our rooftop air conditioner powered from the
generator as we’re driving down the road in extremely
hot weather, since it provides more cooling power than the
built-in cab air conditioning unit.
EXTERIOR
With an exterior height of only nine feet, six inches, we
didn’t have to worry about driving under railroad bridges
or going through tunnels. The overall length of 21 feet, 11
inches, made it ideal for parking on city streets or at the
Casino Rama in a normal parking spot. With a width of six
feet, six inches, we had no problem staying in our own traffic
lane as we navigated on country roads.
The
Dodge chassis was equipped with cab air conditioning, cruise
control, dual airbags, power door locks, power windows, and
power mirrors. The four-wheel disc ABS braking was capable
of stopping on a dime when necessary. The full-paint fibreglass
body was tastefully decorated in the 20th Anniversary silver
finish, and had painted fibreglass running boards with exterior
storage. We had no problem storing our golf clubs under the
rear sofa seat when we opened the rear doors. These doors
have a special hinge that allows them to open completely out
of the way. The driver and passenger front seats were easily
adjustable, comfortable to sit in, and could be rotated.
With a three-year or 60,000-kilometre warranty on the chassis,
and a GVWR of 8,550 pounds, we could tow up to a 5,000 pound
trailer as long as we didn’t load the van up too much.
On the outside of the van, we had an exterior shower that
is convenient when you come back from the beach and need to
wash the sand off your feet. There are storage compartments
available from each side at the rear.
When we wanted to relax outside, we placed
our lawn chairs under the Fiamma 13-foot awning that was above
the doors on the street side of the vehicle.
One of the benefits of the Pleasure-Way Class B van is you
don’t need an extra vehicle for daily excursions to
the market or out to a show in the evening. One vehicle supplies
all of your needs, whether it’s camping on a trip across
the country, or driving to the store.
