Discover
the Wagon Masters’ Top 5 Caravans of All
Time.
Over
the years, I’ve been asked, Of all the caravans
you’ve led, which one was the best?”
This has always been a tough question, but I’ve
come up with the top five caravans of a lifetime.
In some cases we were lucky to experience some
of them more than once.
Caravan #5: Yukon/Alaska
All the hype about Alaska and the Alaska Highway
really intrigued me. It was a long journey –
10,000 miles worth on the motorhome.
The most beautiful scenery was in Northern British
Columbia and the Yukon. It was spectacular. Dawson
City was the most exciting city, with gold mines,
saloons and that whole 1800s feel.
The Top of the World Highway was scary but magnificent.
Of course, when we went, it rained from Dawson
City across the highway. To top off this 15-hour
drive, we were escorted to Tok, due to forest
fires burning on each side of the road. (My last
trip to the Yukon/Alaska was 10 years ago, and
the roads are much better today.)
Caravan #4: Mississippi
River
This is not your typical RV caravan. When we arrived
in New Orleans, we were loaded onto barges with
full hookups, and pushed by a pusher boat up and
down several rivers.
One of those rivers was the mighty Mississippi.
We covered about 450 miles in 10 days on our floating
campground, stopping here and there for bus tours,
boat tours and show tours. We recorded the best
gas mileage ever on this trip. The Mississippi
RV Barge Cruise is no longer running, and we’re
sorry we didn’t do it again.
Caravan #3: Mexico

Caravan #2: Newfoundland

Caravan #1: The
Wild West
