2006 Buyer's Guide  (35-3)
RVs come in a spectrum of styles and designs – some are motorized and others are towable. Motorhomes are made in three basic styles, and are classified roughly based on their size.
Bus-like Class A motorhomes are the largest, providing tremendous interior space. They’re ideal for larger families or long trips.

Class B motorhomes are built on a van chassis. They’re the smallest style of motorhome and therefore are superb at navigating small, winding roads leading to the most remote vacation spots.
Filling the gap are mid-sized Class C motorhomes, which generally combine the basic chassis and cab of a van with a larger RV body. Those looking for an RV that’s a little easier to negotiate on the road than a Class A and more roomy than a Class B should take a closer look at this year’s Cs.

Among the non-motorized, towable RVs are travel trailers, ranging from ultra-compact, 10-foot models to ultra-luxurious 30-foot plus units. Many incorporate slide-out sections that dramatically enhance the interior living area without increasing the overall length of the trailer.

Park models are often seen in a semi-residential setting, bridging the gap between travel trailers and manufactured housing.

Satisfying the adventurous, who love to escape to exiting places on the weekend or for a short trip, are fold-downs or tent trailers. The fold-down feature makes them easy to tow thanks to reduced wind resistance, and they’re usually light enough that they can be towed behind most cars and mini-vans.

The fifth wheel trailer is named for the saddle-and-pin type of hitch it uses. They offer tremendous amounts of space for their size, particularly those with multiple slide-outs.

Truck campers are compact units that slide directly into the truck bed, and are secured with a special tie-down kit. The major advantage of this RV is that it goes wherever the truck does.
