| RVing
is still going strong as some continue to travel south,
and others wait patiently for the unveiling of all
the new ‘06 models. This in spite of unpredictable
fuel prices and weather.
In this ‘Snowbird’ issue, we’ve
decided to offer readers alternative destinations
to Louisiana, Texas and Florida – some areas
that suffered recent hurricane wrath. Our best recovery
wishes go out to the affected regions, and we look
forward to featuring them soon.
In the meantime, the Allegheny/Appalachian area is
not one to be missed. Staff writer Garth Cane explores
the many attractions and RV places to stay. Speaking
of mountains, eastern Tennessee has a lot to offer
as an interesting RV destination offering topnotch
hiking, wildflowers galore and if you’re lucky,
the occasional black bear sighting.
In order to do this travelling, we’ll have to
fork over a little more money for fuel. But according
to the experts, it’s not enough of a difference
to worry anyone. We’ve devoted two columns to
this topic, just to show how industry and consumers
are not affected by what has settled down to amount
to a more manageable rise in price. Even when fuel
prices were way out of whack at the tail end of last
summer, the average cost of driving 100 miles in an
RV this year versus last year is a mere $4.
At opposite ends of the fuel spectrum are Class A’s,
some of which we feature in detail, and the truck
camper. Check out our Northern Lite cover story, written
by staff writer Jo-Ann Searls, who tested this rig
while on a Vancouver Island family holiday. And, for
those on the hunt for new towing performance, Jeep
does it again; the new Jeep Commander has topnotch
ability.
Coming up in the fast-approaching New Year is our
35th Anniversary. Watch for special features in ‘06
– everything from accessories that make up the
ultimate campsite, to creative road activities that
keep the kids busy, to ways to simplify your trip.
You can expect all of this, along with a hot lineup
of features you can use, plus the latest road tests
and the best RV destinations.
See you next year.
