The
more we see of our wonderful continent, the more we
realize just how much more there is to experience.
Karen and I will be
in Orillia, Ontario, from June 17 to 20, 2004 to celebrate
the 25th anniversary of Wagon Trains. For 25 years
we have been running caravans and rallies all over
North America. When we started this association back
in 1979, we never thought we would still be running
Wagon Trains 25 years later. It is truly amazing how
time flies.
In 1980 we had a rally at Cedar Point, in Sandusky,
Ohio. Our first rally held outside our home province
of Ontario, the event attracted 16 units. That same
year, we had a rally in Wallaceburg, Ontario and went
to the Walpole Island Pow-Wow Days event. At the end
of August, we led our first Wild West caravan to Salt
Lake City, Reno, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego,
Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley and Colorado
Springs. It was our first full year at running caravans
and rallies, and it was a learning experience of the
highest order.
In
1988, we organized and lead the first all-Canadian
piggyback caravan into Mexico. Some 36 RVs made the
trip to our starting-off point in Douglas, Arizona.
Arriving in Douglas, our caravan made a stop at the
local K-Mart at around 8:30 in the morning. The store
manager, seeing us all out in his parking lot, came
out and asked if he gave us a 10 percent discount
on everything we bought, would we stay and shop in
his store. All you have to say to Karen is the word
shopping and we have a rest stop. Karen bought all
kinds of clothes for our kids, and shoes for the next
10 years. Everyone did.
Our caravan into Mexico was very interesting...

Take care & Happy Family Day
